Logan’s Choice

Logan was an inspector in the Edinburgh Police.

Alex Maclennan was dead on the bathroom floor of his house.

He was very rich and had an expensive restaurant.

Logan suspected three persons around him and one of them killed Alex.

The three persons are his wife, his brother in law and his friend.

These persons would get a lot of money if Alex was dead.

Who killed Alex?

 

I thought that every three persons were doubtful but Alex’s wife, Alice helped Logan to catch the person who killed Alex.

I thought that Logan had a good ability to guess which person killed him.

She also had good friends because they always helped her or gave her information about the person whom she wanted to know.

I didn’t expect that she called the person who killed Alex and caught him.

Help!

Frank was a writer but he never finished his book.

His wife, Teresa sent the book to all the big London and Hollywood film makers.

The maker didn’t answer and he didn’t finish the book.

After he took a nap, he got a letter from a big film company.

A Hollywood producer, Mel wanted Frank to write the second half of the story.

Mel gave Frank a computer and much money.

When Frank typed “help!”, there was a woman called Chip in the screen.

She could talk and help him use computer.

Was this computer useful or Frank or not?

 

When Frank got a letter from a Hollywood producer, I thought how lucky person he was.

He got not only money but also a special computer to write his book.

At first, I thought that Chip was very kind because she always help him whatever he wanted.

But she was too kind so she finished his book and made some changes.

It was a dream.

I hoped that he could become famous by writing the story.

The Big Pictures

Ken was a photographer and he took photo for newspapers, for anybody who wanted to buy them.

He was going to the Tokyo Garden Hotel to take photo of Takahanada who is a famous sumo star.

Ken went to a coffee shop and saw Takahanada and his new girlfriend, Kumiko.

Ken had the only photo of them.

He took a taxi and saw a man with a gun in the taxi.

After he talked with his wife, everything in his flat was broken.

Somebody is going to kill him but who are they or why?

 

This story is interesting.

When I read it, I felt nervous.

At the end of the story, Ken gave his family life priority over his work.

I like what his teacher told him.

“Maybe there’s something you don’t see. Maybe you don’t see something important.”

And Ken thought, “But sometimes the important thing is right there in front of you.”

THREE TOMORROWS

There are different stories about the future in this book.

 

The first story is about five years from now.

Joe couldn’t get emails from his friends and from his work because he had got too much spam.

Joe and his wife, Inez read the emails from the internet shopping company.

Everyone wanted the cheap prices and they spent too much money.

They couldn’t stop because that internet shopping company put things in the emails and they put ideas in your head that you didn’t know about it.

It was like a computer virus, but it worked on people.

 

The second story is about 2106 in Paris.

All the waiters looked the same.

Trees and animals were only in the Sun Rooms now.

Computers made everything and you made the world you wanted.

They were not the real.

At the end of the story, Fleur called the helper company and she turned his husband, Lumus off.

 

The third story is about fifteen hundred years from now.

A thousand years ago from that time, the Machines came.

They walked, talked, thought and had ideas.

They wanted to stop the Old Ones and change their world.

It was a world of machines, and there weren’t many living things – no fish or no animals.

 

 

John Doe

Doctor Cox asked a man his name but he didn’t know what his name was. 

Doctor Cox decided to call the man John Doe.

Everybody believed that he didn’t remember anything but he pretended not to remember anything.

The police found a dead woman at her house.

They tried to look for a man who met her at that night.

It was John Doe that killed the woman.

Doctor Cox knew about him and called the police.

John Doe was going to kill Nurse Angela and he went to her house.

Doctor Cox called her and she escaped from him.

The police caught him.

 

Different narrators talked a story in each chapter so I can read it from different points of view.

At first, I thought John didn’t remember anything but he just pretended not to remember anything.

When John stood close by Nurse Angela with the knife, I felt nervous.

Even though she was in danger, she was very brave.

The police could catch John Doe thanks to many people’s helps.

I knew that the name “John Doe” is a vulgarism for a man who doesn’t know his name.

It is like nanashi no gonnbei in Japanese.

 

 

Inspector Logan

Logan was a police officer.

Robert told Logan that his wife, Margaret didn’t come back so Logan put Margaret’s photo in the newspaper.

But the police found her body.

Someone hit her on the head.

There wasn’t a broach on her coat.

It was found in the rubbish can of Andrew’s house.

Andrew was a doctor and he said that he and Margaret was lovers.

He wanted her to leave her husband and live with her but she didn’t.

Did Andrew kill Margaret, or others did?

 

I have read another story about Inspector Logan before.

This book was about Logan’s first murder.

I thought Andrew killed Margaret as Grant guessed but he didn’t.

At the beginning of the story, Grant didn’t call Logan “madam”.

But he called her “madam” at the end of the story.

It means that Grant recognized Logan as a good inspector.

I like this book!

 

 

 

Bad Love

Flick Laine was a detective.

She was at the party with her friend, Judy who was a doctor.

Flick met Jack who is a very good doctor.

A few days later, he was dead.

The police thought he killed himself because he had a gun in his right hand.

But Flick thought someone killed him because he was left handed.

The Police found a letter in Jack’s office.

It was said “You are never going to forget Jeff Baker.”

Who killed Jack and why?

 

Before I read this book, I thought it was a love story but it wasn’t.

I was surprised to know that Judy killed Jack because I imagined that the other person killed him.

After I knew about that, I could guess that she felt jealous of women who loves him from what she said.

TEN LONG YEARS

Nat Marley was a private investigator in New York. 

He met a man at the bar.

The man, Hernandez had been in jail for ten years because he sold drugs.

Hernandez asked Nat to find his old friend who was called Lopez.

Hernandez was a boss and Lopez and two friends worked for Hernandez.

Someone killed the two men after Hernandez went to jail.

Nat thought that Lopez killed them because he wanted to be a boss.

 

Hernandez didn’t tell police about his friends and he believed that Lopez waited for him.

But Lopez betrayed his friends because he wanted to be a boss and get all money.

Hernandez wanted to start his new life.

After two years later, he became a famous writer.

His dream came true and everything around him changed!!

I was happy to know about that.

 

 

DON’T STOP NOW!

Matt went to the cafe where people could use computers.

Kate was a student but she helped her father in the cafe.

Suddenly the window was smashed.

Matt found a small paper near the window.

He didn’t read it because it wasn’t written in English.

Matt asked Paolo, who is Kate’s father, but he didn’t tell Matt about the paper.

The two men asked Polo to put a black box in his cafe because they took the credit card numbers of people who use the cafe…

 

I didn’t know what the black box was until the latter half of the story, so I was curious about it like Matt while I was reading.

The meanings of “Don’t stop now!” were different from the beginning and the ending.

At first, Paolo and Kate thought Matt wasn’t their family so they didn’t tell Matt anything about their problem.

But their mind changed and they welcomed Matt to their family.

The meaning at the ending was that Kate and Paolo didn’t want Matt to leave the cafe.

When I noticed about that, I was moved.

 

 

 

Parallel

Max sat in his bed. 

There was a gun on the bed beside him.

A man visited Max but he didn’t know the man.

His name was Fairhead and he gave Max some photographs.

There was a photograph of a priest and the same man was in all the photographs.

Fairheard told Max that the man in these photographs was the other Max Holland.

Fairhead lived in other world, a parallel world.

Max didn’t understand what Fairhead said but he decided to go to the parallel world to see the other Max.

 

There was a plot in the front page of every book I had read in this class.

But this book didn’t have a plat so I didn’t know what kind of people would appear in the story.

There were conversations between a man and a woman during the story.

I was thrilled while I read this book because I didn’t guess who they were.

The priest, the other Max felt afraid at the end of the story,

Then all at once, he wasn’t afraid.

I hoped Max wouldn’t die.
